Easy Taco Tuesday
Or maybe you don't have the most sophisticated cooking skills?
Have no fear, I am here to save your Taco Tuesday.
Here is how you can make quick and simple tacos.
What you'll need:
- Meat of your choice (hamburger, turkey, chicken, etc.)
- Taco seasoning packet
- Taco shells/tortillas
- Shredded cheese
- Rice
- Beans
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Onion
- Sour cream
- Taco sauce
- Salsa
- Anything else you like to put on your tacos
You can do the traditional beef/turkey taco meat made with a taco seasoning packet and just follow the directions on the packet, but for this example I used chicken. I cut up some chicken breast, threw it in a pan with some olive oil and salt and pepper, and let it cook a few minutes until all the pink was gone. You can use taco seasoning or any seasoning of your choice on the chicken if that's more your style.
Beans are another great taco/burrito filler. Normally, I like to use refried beans, but all I had was this can of black beans (which are another great option).
Put all that taco goodness inside your choice of taco shell. Heating up the tortilla with the cheese in the microwave for a few seconds will soften and warm up your tortilla and melt your cheese.
After you warm up all your warm ingredients, then you can add all the cold ones.
I'm a big fan of restaurant-style salsa. Unfortunately, most store bought salsa is far from what you can find at your local restaurant. I did some brief looking around, and this salsa from Publix is the closest thing I found so far. It is pretty good. It's definitely better than the canned stuff. The downside is that it's a bit watery and it isn't overly flavorful. It also comes in a medium, and other flavors such as "mango peach" and "fire roasted".
What do you like to put on your tacos? What is your favorite salsa?
